Alyssa Sweetman
Alyssa Sweetman's introduction to video games, technology, and the internet occurred at a young age, fostering her passion for these fields. From building desktop towers and playing Sega Game Gear to embracing beloved titles like Diablo I & II, Crash Bandicoot, Wild 9, Super Bomberman 2, and the Sims 2, Alyssa's deep-rooted affinity for gaming is evident. During her college years, she discovered Twitch and delved into content creation, particularly streaming Super Mario World, which led her to join a gaming team dedicated to supporting veterans through charity fundraising. This marked the beginning of her remarkable journey in charity fundraising and social impact.
Alyssa went on to establish Gallant Gamers, a gaming content creation team that prioritized grassroots fundraising and fostering positive relationships within the gaming community. Armed with a Bachelor's degree in Economics, she transitioned into the education sector as a second-grade teacher. During her weekends, she dedicated her time to educating nonprofits about gaming and engaging with content creators, with one notable organization being the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention.
In 2017, Alyssa's exceptional talents caught the attention of Twitch, where she assumed the role of Charity Program Associate. Her contributions were instrumental in launching impactful initiatives like Black History Month and Women's History Month, paving the way for future inclusive marketing programs. As part of Women's History Month, she collaborated with 1000 Dreams Fund to establish the BroadcastHER grant, which raised over $400,000 and supported more than 300 femme content creators since its inception in 2018. Additionally, Alyssa played a pivotal role in expanding the Women's Employee Resource Group, establishing local chapters across all of Twitch's global offices.
Amid the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Alyssa proactively compiled public resources to assist nonprofits in swiftly adapting to influencer marketing and digital fundraising. She also spearheaded the engagement strategy for Twitch Stream Aid, which successfully raised $2.5 million for the United Nations Foundation's Covid-19 relief efforts.
Currently serving on the Advisory Board for 1000 Dreams Fund and as Treasurer for IGDA-Foundation Special Interest Group for NeuroDivergent people, Alyssa's impactful work at Twitch and in the social impact sphere earned her a coveted spot on the prestigious Forbes 30 Under 30 games list in 2021. In early 2022, driven by her unwavering commitment to social impact, she made the decision to depart from her role as Director of Social Impact at Twitch. Today she’s still focused on continuing her mission to make a difference in the world through gaming and content creators.
